Oil on Canvas, 190x110cm, 2025
“Last time at a party I saw these neon green boots” is a conceptual painting. It represents a personal experience—filtered, pinpointed, and distilled into a single moment. A snapshot.
By translating a spontaneous iPhone photograph, taken with nothing more than fleeting amusement in mind, into an oil painting on canvas, I attempt to recreate the lived experience. In this process, the central subject—a pair of boots—transforms into a symbol.
The choice of painting as a medium plays a crucial role in this conceptualization. Historically, paintings have often been seen as windows into a world. During the Renaissance, artists like Leon Battista Alberti described a painting as a “fenestra aperta” (open window), reinforcing this analogy.
